TPWD Licensed Fishing Guide
Colorado Float Guide Certified
Please allow me to introduce myself; my name is Kyle Kenter, owner and principal guide of Kenter Guide Service. I grew up in the Woodlands, a suburb of Houston, Texas. I started fishing with my dad before I started grade school. Living in southeast Texas gave me ample opportunity to fish the saltwater bays and marshes of the Texas coast as well as the freshwater lakes and rivers of the region. While I was a high school student I worked for the Orvis Fly Shop in the Woodlands where I gathered a great deal of knowledge of fly fishing equipment and supplies. While working for Orvis, I provided casting lessons on a weekly basis, as well as hands-on fly fishing schools. I became consumed with fly fishing; it was like learning to fish all over again, and it became a constant challenge to see what I could catch next on fly. My obsession soon had me bringing a fly rod everywhere I went, from the neighborhood pond to the flats of the Lower Laguna Madre and even off shore in the Gulf of Mexico. I then moved to San Marcos, Texas to attend Texas State University, where I discovered a gem of fly fishing opportunities. I completed my undergraduate studies with a degree in Marketing. During my college career, while living within close proximity to many outstanding Hill Country rivers, I was fortunate to be able to be out on the water at least four days a week where I have honed my skills and technique for the art of fly fishing, breaking three state records in the process. As time went by, I found that I derived just as much pleasure if not more by sharing my fishing knowledge and skills with other people in order to make them a better angler; in fact I get more satisfaction out of seeing someone else catch a fish that I was able to help than if I were to have caught that fish myself. As a result I started working with some of the best and experienced fishing guides in the Texas Hill Country; which also has lead me to fly fishing the high country streams and rivers of the Rocky Mountains through the summer months. Over the past several years I have been blessed to meet some outstanding individuals out on the water that I am lucky enough to consider life-long friends; some of them refer to me as “The Trout Whisperer”, I don’t know about that but what I do know is that I have a deep passion for fly fishing and nothing gives me greater joy in life than to see that same passion sparked in someone else through my guidance. At this point in my life, I can confidently say that I love every minute of my job. I am young, there’s no doubt about it; however, I have been blessed with the opportunity to do more fishing in 24 years than most do in a lifetime. I have the ability to instill a sense of youth in many of my clients, with a fresh and energetic attitude towards the amazing sport we know as fly fishing.
