Fishing has been spotty due to high flows from Longhorn Dam. We have still had a few nice days out there, with black or green poppers as our best patterns.
The Colorado River below Austin is producing some large fish right now, and everyone caught atleast one bass over 3 pounds. Yellow poppers and black streamers were our best patterns.
We used one fly on the Colorado all day, an orange popper. The topwater action was incredible and we caught some really nice bass.
Great topwater action most days. I am going with a yellow popper. If the topwater action slows, try getting down deep with a crawfish pattern. Be sure to check the flows from Longhorn dam before deciding which stretch to fish.
Did a little bass fishing over the past couple of days. Wednesday was the San Marcos River and Thursday was the Colorado below Austin. Both days we found steady fishing in the afternoon with crawfish patterns to be most productive. This cooler weather will have bass less active as you would find in warmer months, so try a slowly bouncing flies off the bottom and expect a very subtle take.
The photo's below are from yesterday's trip on the Colorado River. Mike from San Antonio braved the 20+ mph winds and was rewarded with over 40 bass on frog poppers!
Fished the Colorado River on Thursday afternoon with Leigh and Brad from Austin. Fishing was a little slow at first but got much better later in the afternoon. We had fish up to 4 lbs blowing up on our frog poppers, and also caught a few on a clouser. The weather was amazing, this is a great time to be out on the water for some fall bass fishing!
Here's a few shots from a recent trip to the Colorado River below Austin with Jeff Davis, Alvin Dedeaux and me. We landed over 100 bass on frog poppers, a few fish were pushing 4 lbs!
Great fishing on the Colorado today. The overcast skies had the bass up and active and we did well on very large black poppers. The fish of the day was a 4lb largemouth and we had a large number of fish in the 1.5-3 lb range.
