Fly Fishing Casting Lessons

I have been giving fly casting lessons for over 6 years, starting while I worked for Orvis and progressing through my guiding career. This experience has given me the knowledge to effectively teach casting technique and diagnose various problems that cause faulty casting. I can teach anything from the basic cast for the beginner to more advanced techniques such as the double haul for a more advanced caster. Fly Fishing Casting Lessons are $50/hour for the first person and $25/hour for each additional person, with a minimum of 2 hours required. I can accommodate any size group with enough advanced notice. For basic casting instruction (learning to fly fish) I can personally accommodate up to 10 anglers. More advanced instruction will typically run smoother with a maximum of three anglers, so I can spend more time with each person.

Learn to Fly Fish Clinic

This program will include casting, and progress into the actual fishing techniques that we use on the water. We will cover presentation, fly choice, and fish fighting techniques for various situations and species of fish. Learn to fly fish lessons are $50/hour for the first person and $25/hour for each additional person, with a minimum of 2 hours required.

Fly Fishing Lessons via Guide Trip

My favorite way to teach fly fishing is through a float trip with hands on learning. Typically we will get on the water and learn basic casting concepts and then begin fishing as we are learning. I can tell you about fishing and where to fish all day, but it really seems to stick when I can actually show you the productive types of water. This is beneficial because trout water is trout water; if you learn how to effectively find and fish productive water on the Guadalupe River, it will be much easier to find and locate productive trout water all over the world!

Learn the Guadalupe

Hiring a guide for the first time you fish an area will pay huge dividends in the long run. I will be happy to show you the ropes of fly fishing the Guadalupe River for Rainbow Trout. I will also be more than happy to show you all of the public access points along the river and the productive water at each area. The best way to do this is on a full day float, where we will float through multiple access areas and typically get out of the boat and fish them as if we were simply walk-wading. This is also a great program for new Guadalupe River Chapter of Trout Unlimited (GRTU) Lease Access Program members who are interested in learning the river and the lease access areas.

Fly Tying Lessons

Many anglers get a great sense of accomplishment out of catching a fish on a fly they have tied themselves. I can provide instruction and demonstrations on tying productive patterns for fly fishing our local waters whether it is bass, rainbow trout or even saltwater patterns for redfish and speckled trout. Personal lessons are $50/hour for the first person and $25/hour for each additional person, with a minimum of 2 hours required. Contact me if you are looking for group lessons, as the price will vary.
