The trout fishing is in full swing here on the Guadalupe River! Fishing is great and the river is up to 92 CFS and clear after heavy rains last week. Most of our fish are being caught on size 20 or 22 midge patterns behind a size 16 hare's ear or pheasant tail. Fish are starting to spread out a little more due to the higher flow. Fish are averaging 12-16 inches this year with a few in the 18-21 inch range caught this month. On sunny days, we are seeing trico hatches in the morning, caddis and slate drakes in the evening and midges hatching throughout the day. Cooler overcast days are producing some nice BWO hatches as well. February and March will continue to provide great trout fishing action on the Guadalupe!
Good fishing on the Guadalupe today. Fished light nymph rigs with standard nymphs and midge emergers. The fish are still schooled up so keep moving until you find them.
Trout season is here! Yes, the water is low but we are still catching plenty of fish. Try fishing light nymph rigs with standard nymphs such as pheasant tails and hare's ears. On overcast days the streamer fishing has been excellent on white wooly buggers. Some days the fish are rising which makes for exciting dry fly fishing with Hex and smaller mayfly patterns. The low water has fish concentrated in certain areas so be sure to move around often and usually where you find one, you will find many.
