Fishing has been excellent, other than Saturday wich was slow. Olive or black streamers as well as black or yellow poppers have been our best flies.
Fishing on the San Marcos River today was fair. Plenty of bass and sunfish on grasshopper patterns, and a couple on bigger green poppers.
The San Marcos is fishing great. Fish streamers in olive or brown until noon, and then the topwater action begins. My best fly has been an orange or yellow popper.
Did a little bass fishing over the past couple of days. Wednesday was the San Marcos River and Thursday was the Colorado below Austin. Both days we found steady fishing in the afternoon with crawfish patterns to be most productive. This cooler weather will have bass less active as you would find in warmer months, so try a slowly bouncing flies off the bottom and expect a very subtle take.
After having to pass up the Colorado this weekend due to high flows, we opted for day 4 on the San Marcos. Fishing was OK, but turned out nice when a big Largemouth Bass decided to eat. We caught our fish on poppers and crawfish flies.
Had the opportunity to fish with Marcus of Guides of Texas this afternoon on the San Marcos River from Staples to Fentress. We had our work cut out for us as we lowered the raft down a 20 ft. dam and portaged around several downed trees. Fishing was really nice from around 3-6 pm and slowed down in the evening. Had ...a few fish on big black streamers and the rest on white poppers. Best fish was a 4 lb largemouth, pictured below.
Scouting trip today on the San Marcos today to Staples, which I hadn't fished in a while. Fishing was pretty slow, but we managed a few fish on poppers including a double hookup.
Headed out to the San Marcos with Dan Cone and Jeff Davis this afternoon. Had some explosive topwater action with solid bass on poppers, the best being around 2.5 lbs. Still thinking about the bass in the 5 lb range that followed my popper up to the boat.
Consistent fishing on the San Marcos this morning, nothing huge but a good number of solid largemouth, smallmouth and guadalupe bass in the 1-3 lb range.
Fishing on the San Marcos today was nothing short of stellar. The highlights were a 4.5 pound smallmouth and a 7 pound largemouth! Crawfish patterns were the ticket.
